Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

At the bottom, the yellow-green shale is in conformable contact with the limestone at the top of the underlying Daye Group (Guanzishan Fm).

Upper contact

Regionally, the next younger unit is the Chutanlong Fm of Norian.

Regional extent

Distribution is limited, only seen in Lianyuan, Hunan, Shuangfeng area, due to denudation did not peak.

Fossils

There are bivalve fossils Leptochondria sp., Posidonia sp., Amonotis sp., Nuculana sp. and conodont Coenudina sp. found only on the bottom.

Age

Named as "Qilinshan layer", it represents the upper strata of the Lower Triassic in the Hunan Shuangfeng belt, but no named section has been specified. In 1972, the survey team in Hunan Province took the Maqiaobian section in Lianyuan, Hunan Province as the representative, and renamed it Qilinshan Formation, which represents the clastic rock strata in the upper part of the Lower Triassic in the Lianyuan area. The middle Triassic bivalves were collected from the bottom of the Majiabian Formation in Ganxi, Lianyuan in 1980, and the age of the bivalves was determined to be the middle Triassic. In 1992, Wang Zunzhou et al. confirmed that the age of this group was the Middle Triassic through the conodont data of Majiabian section.
